Gallia-Jackson-Vinton Joint Vocational School District in Rio Grande, Ohio, operates the Buckeye Hills Career Center. The center has the distinctive mission of training local adults for careers that are most in-demand in the Rio Grande region. Students also receive the financial and other benefits of a public school education. Academics prepare students to work in such locally thriving fields as healthcare and industrial services. This means that applicants to these open programs need only have a high school diploma or GED. Materials required for admissions include a completed application and transcripts or GED scores. Applicants to the center’s healthcare programs will also need to supply letters of reference.

For over a century, Lincoln Memorial University has provided students with a small private university experience in a rural setting. Located in Harrogate, Tennessee, about 55 miles north of Knoxville, the school sits at the juncture of Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Per its namesake, Lincoln Memorial has one of the largest collections of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia in the world. COAD is a private, non-profit community-based organization that serves rural, predominantly Appalachian, counties in eastern and southern Ohio. It is made up of 17 Community Action Agencies that cover a 30-county area. Community Development, Early Care and Education, and Senior Programs are the three core program divisions of COAD. COAD also provides scholarship aid and opportunities for leadership development, early childhood education, community development, senior programs, AmeriCorps seniors, and weatherization services.
