Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is a Japanese government agency headquartered in Tokyo, established in 2001 through the merger of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry with several other economic-related agencies. Its primary mission is to foster the development of Japan's economy and industry by promoting economic vitality in the private sector, enhancing external economic relationships, and ensuring a stable and efficient supply of energy and mineral resources. METI plays a crucial role in shaping Japan's industrial and trade policies, overseeing energy security, and regulating arms exports. It is often referred to as a "human resource agency" due to its influence in cultivating leaders across politics, business, and academia. The current minister is Yoichi Miyazawa.
