Rural Press

Acquisition in 2006
Rural Press Limited was an Australian media company based in North Richmond, known for its extensive portfolio of approximately 170 newspaper and magazine titles, including The Canberra Times, which was its most notable publication. The company primarily focused on regional and agricultural journalism, serving rural Australia while also managing several agricultural publications in the United States and New Zealand. Additionally, Rural Press operated radio stations in regional South Australia and Queensland, alongside a range of Australian classified advertising websites and commercial printing facilities. In December 2006, Rural Press announced a merger with John Fairfax Holdings, which was finalized in May 2007, forming a new entity valued at approximately $12 billion. This merger positioned the company strategically in the media landscape, allowing it to better navigate competitive challenges in the industry.
