The University of California’s Merced campus believes that encouraging learning, discovery and engagement are key to producing students who are successful in their future. This research campus also seeks to tie nature to learning, demonstrated by its aim to become the greenest campus in the country. The university offers a variety of academics with nearly 20 undergraduate majors like Literature and Cultures, Physics and Sociology. There are also over 20 minors available, as well as a handful of options for graduate studies. Admissions require that students have completed the required ACT Plus Writing Test or the SAT Reasoning Test. A 3.0 GPA or better is also required. The admissions policy reviews not only these numbers, but other academic accomplishments, any demonstrated leadership potential or service, academic participation, talents, experiences and interests. Tuition for any university can be costly, but the University of California—Merced offers financial aid in grants, federal and private loans, need- or merit-based scholarships and work-study. To apply for financial aid, students should submit a FAFSA, complete the University of California Application of Admissions and Scholarships and the Cal Grant GPA Verification form. With over 100 clubs and organizations at the University of California—Merced, student life is always active. And, with Yosemite National park just a couple of hours from campus, students have many opportunities for relaxation and exploration beyond the classroom.
Our seven programs provide services to more than 3,500 parents and children each year, 50% of whom are under age 18. Of our 80+ staff members, 57% are people of color, 73% are women, and more than 20% have been homeless and bring firsthand knowledge to their work with clients.
