Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison
Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison was a prominent law firm based in San Francisco, California, established in 1926. Renowned for its expertise, the firm gained recognition in the 1980s for providing legal services to numerous blue-chip companies and became a key player in representing technology startups during the 1990s, with notable clients including Cisco, Nike, and Nokia. At its peak in 2000, the firm reported annual revenues of $314 million and employed over 1,000 attorneys. However, the firm's fortunes declined sharply after the dot-com crash in 2001, as it had accepted equity shares from tech companies in lieu of attorney fees, which subsequently became worthless. Following significant financial losses and failed merger discussions in 2003, Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison was liquidated under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, leading to its dissolution that same year.
