Since 2005, the Irish National Roads Authority​(NRA) has worked with the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) on the problems of measuring the night visibility (retroreflectivity) of road lines and markers. As a result of this collaboration, the Institute of Technology (ITB) developed the ‘INFORM’ technology. The project was funded by the National Road authority (NRA) Research Fund, Enterprise Ireland (EI), and the Higher Education Authority​ (HEA). Reflective Measurement Systems acquired the Technology Transfer Licence (TTL) from ITB for the INFORM technology for road lines and markers in August 2013 with a view to developing a commercial product. The resulting technology is called RetroTek.
