Grant in 2020
Alginor ASA is a company focused on the sustainable utilization of seaweed resources from the Arctic region, particularly Laminaria Hyperborea. Established on March 24, 2014, Alginor aims to develop an integrated biorefinery that maximizes the use of seaweed biomass for producing a range of high-value ingredients. These ingredients include mannitol, fucoidan, cellulose, alginate, oligosaccharides, polyphenols, carotenoids, amino acids, and other biobased materials. The company is committed to eco-friendly and efficient processing methods, setting a standard for innovative solutions in various sectors, including food, feed, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, chemicals, and materials. Alginor plans to construct a demonstration biorefinery with an initial production capacity of 5,000 tons of seaweed annually and aims for future expansion to a full-scale industrial facility capable of processing 50,000 tons per year. This approach not only addresses the potential of seaweed as a valuable resource but also emphasizes zero waste and sustainable practices in production.
