New York Blood Center
New York Blood Center is one of the largest independent, community-based nonprofit blood centers in the United States, established in 1964. It operates laboratories that conduct patient antibody testing, blood typing, and antigen analysis, as well as HLA testing for bone marrow and cord blood donors, platelet recipients, and investigations related to transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). Each year, New York Blood Center supplies approximately one million blood products to hospitals across the Northeast, playing a crucial role in saving the lives of patients undergoing cancer treatments, surgeries, or those suffering from conditions such as AIDS, sickle cell anemia, and hemophilia. Its mission is to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply through collaboration with community and corporate partners, along with the support of blood donors and volunteers.
