University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF)
The University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the commercialization of intellectual property generated at the University of Tennessee. Established in 1935 as the UT Research Corporation and reorganized in 2003, UTRF is recognized as the second-oldest university research foundation in the United States. Its mission encompasses fostering an entrepreneurial culture, supporting economic development in Tennessee and the surrounding regions, and advancing research and education for the benefit of the public. Over the decades, UTRF has evolved from focusing primarily on agricultural innovations to encompassing a diverse range of contemporary research fields, including biology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and alternative energy.
