Verbund AG is Austria's largest electricity provider, specializing in the generation, trading, and sale of electricity both domestically and internationally. Established in 1947, it is predominantly owned by the Austrian state, which holds 51% of its capital. The company’s operations are divided into several segments, including Renewable Generation, Sales, and Grid. Hydropower constitutes over 90% of its total power output, with a capacity of 8,222 megawatts sourced from various hydroelectric plants across Austria and southern Germany. Additionally, Verbund operates wind farms and thermal power plants, contributing to a total electrical capacity that includes 418 megawatts from wind and 1,094 megawatts from thermal sources. The company also manages the national electricity grid through its subsidiary, AP, and has expanded its portfolio by acquiring a majority stake in Gas Connect Austria, enhancing its gas transmission and distribution capabilities.
