Auto-Owners

Auto-Owners Insurance is the largest property and casualty insurance company based in Michigan, with origins tracing back to 1916 when Vern V. Moulton established the company in Mt. Pleasant. Initially operating with minimal resources, the company was relocated to Lansing in 1917, where it began to grow despite economic challenges, including the Great Depression. During this period, Auto-Owners earned a reputation for financial stability by promptly paying all claims in cash. The company initially focused on automobile insurance but expanded into general casualty insurance in 1940. This growth necessitated the acquisition of multiple office spaces until, in 1951, Auto-Owners consolidated its operations into a single home office in downtown Lansing. Over the years, Auto-Owners has maintained a commitment to service and reliability, contributing to its status as a leading insurer in the region.
