BC Advantage Funds

BC Advantage Funds was a venture capital firm based in British Columbia, specializing in investments in early-stage life science, technology, and clean technology companies. Founded in 2003, the firm gained recognition for its strong performance, notably receiving the Canadian Venture Capital Association 'Deal of the Year' award in 2006 for achieving a remarkable 23.4X return on its investment in Aspreva Pharmaceuticals. Additionally, its Advantage Life Science Fund I delivered the highest five-year returns of any retail fund in Canada from 2006 to 2008. However, following the financial crisis of 2008-2009, the firm faced significant challenges in growing and financing its portfolio companies. In July 2016, the Board of Directors determined that the best course of action for maximizing shareholder value was to liquidate and dissolve the company. A special meeting of shareholders was held to approve this decision, leading to the distribution of the company’s remaining assets to shareholders.
