Ultimate Guitar

Acquisition in 2021
Ultimate Guitar has a very unique background story. The website was launched way back in 1998 a guitar-playing enthusiast and business school student as a hobby project. First using it to share Guns N' Roses tabs with the rest of the world, the website slowly began to grow. One thing led to another, and it eventually turned into a modern-styled business with the largest collection of 1.5 million guitar tabs and chord charts, as well as other music-related resources, including lessons, reviews, and news. Even to this day, Ultimate Guitar's base of operations still remains at the same place – Kaliningrad, Russia. And it still operates like a startup, with its own self-sustainable model. The road to becoming the world's largest guitar community was rough. And we never really felt like moving to the Silicon Valley or any other "trendy" location in Europe or the US, we still operate as a startup. We're still in the middle of nowhere in Russia, we still have millions of users and fans all over the world, and we're still having a blast in our hometown. Recently, we've set one very ambitious goal – we want to grow the total number of musicians in the world to 1 billion. This is one of the reasons why we offered 70% of our content for free via the UG app, ultimately inspiring guitar players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels all over the world.
